Company Insights
Acronis, a global cyber protection leader, was founded in 2003 to provide comprehensive data safety, privacy, and accessibility solutions for various devices and platforms. Catering to individual users, small businesses, and large enterprises, Acronis has established a strong presence in the competitive cybersecurity landscape.
Serguei Beloussov, the company’s founder, boasts a successful background in entrepreneurship, computer science, and engineering. His vision to create advanced cyber protection technologies inspired the establishment of Acronis, which has since grown exponentially.
Acronis Funding Rounds History
Over the years, Acronis has attracted significant investments through multiple funding rounds. In 2004, a Series A round led by Insight Venture Partners raised $11 million, which fueled the development of the pioneering disk imaging and backup software, Acronis True Image. The product’s success prompted a Series B round in 2007, also led by Insight Venture Partners, raising an additional $10 million for research, development, and global expansion.
More recently, Acronis secured $147 million in a 2019 funding round led by Goldman Sachs, valuing the company at over $1 billion. This investment accelerated the development of cyber protection solutions, expanded Acronis’ global footprint, and facilitated strategic partnerships and acquisitions. In 2021, a Series E round led by CVC Capital Partners raised $250 million, which was earmarked for acquisitions, product development, and market expansion.
Acronis Acquisitions
Acronis has strategically acquired several companies to strengthen its product lineup and market presence. In 2014, it acquired nScaled, a disaster recovery-as-a-service (DRaaS) solutions provider, integrating DRaaS capabilities into its platform. In 2017, Acronis purchased DeviceLock, an endpoint device control and data leak prevention software provider, expanding its endpoint protection capabilities.
The acquisition of 5nine Software in 2019 allowed Acronis to integrate virtualization management and security solutions for Microsoft’s Hyper-V platform, enhancing its cyber protection capabilities. In 2020, Acronis further strengthened its security services by acquiring CyberLynx, an Israeli cybersecurity consultancy specializing in penetration testing, security audits, and risk management.
Today, Acronis offers a wide range of products and services, including its flagship Acronis Cyber Protect, designed to protect data, applications, and systems across various environments.
